Marrige

In Ancient Greece if you were the bride and the groom you would have no choice who you were going to marry.Your family and the bride or grooms family would have meetings and discuss how they will pay for the wedding and other financial issues.Typically women married between the ages of fourteen to eighteen.Men on the other hand married later in life like between their twenties and even thirties.If a male were to go outside they would not speak of the wives name because the Male does not want to attract other men to his home.

Diet and Food

The Greeks loved their bodies.The Greeks thought that the gods loved them looking good,that's why in the Olympics they oiled their bodies;for the gods.The Greeks because of the hot and warm weather,they usually cook outside.But when they weather is bad they cook in the kitchen.The kitchen has a hole in the roof so the smoke can get out.Food in Ancient Greece consisted of grains, figs, wheat to make bread, barley, fruit, vegetables, breads, and cake.

Homes.

The Greek homes usually had two or three rooms,Built around a courtyard in the middle of the house.The homes were made of Brick, which was not that dependable due to it crumbles very easily.Burglar's were called wall piercers because they could go through the brick very easily.Homes were made out of other things like,Clay,Stone,and sometimes wood.The homes' had roofs made out of overlapping clay tiles.Inside the house the floors were made out of packed dirt and clay.Woman were only allowed to leave their homes for a short period of time and so when they had free time they could go to their courtyard in their home.

The Life.

The Greeks daily life;When a son was born the family would hang a wreath made with olives for a male and a wreath with wool for a female.If they had a son he would stay with his mother until he is seven years old.The young boy would sleep in a wicker basket or a wooden cradle.When a child has free time they would play with a yo-yo,raddles,and dolls made out of clay.
The Women did not have really any rights,The women stayed home and raised the kids,cooked,and cleaned.The women did have some help though because they had the help of slaves.The women and daughters could not attend the Olympics.
The Men spent a long time away from their homes,because of politics,and when not in politics they would be an overseer in the fields watching the slaves working.When the men weren't working they would go to drinking parties,wrestle and watch the Olympics

Clothing

The Greeks thought that the gods liked to see strong,physically fit men,the men also oiled their bodies during the Olympics to please the gods.Not a lot of families would go to the market place and buy clothes because it was expensive,so the mother in the household and with the help of the slaves would make the clothes for the family.The clothes the Greek men and young me men were sandals,and a tunic,it was like a long knee high shirt. The tunics were made out of linen and wool.The sandals were made out of leather for the rich and straw for the poor.The Greek women wore one big piece of linen or wool pinned in a couple places to keep the wool or linen on.The Greeks paid much attention to how they looked,They loved to look and smell good,They made their own perfume by cinnamon, basil, almonds, roses, lavender, and lilies.

Sporting Events

The Olympics had pretty much all the same sports as today,some of the sports were,Wrestling,Just about the same rules apply but there are a few differences like you can break the opponents fingers.Discus throwing,boxing,In Ancient Greek Boxing there were no weight classes and there was no rule of hitting when the opponent was down.You would play rounds and box until the opponent was K.0 or Admitted to be beaten.Other sports like,running, like the 100 meter dash,when they ran,they ran in the nude and in the bare feet.long jumping,javelin tossing.The Ancient Greeks were huge sports fans.If anybody was caught cheating you were banned for life for disrespecting the gods.

Summary of the Olympics

The Greek Olympics started in 776 BC in Olympia Greece and sadly ended in 393 BC when Olympia was destroyed by an earthquake.The olympics were held once every four years. Nobody knows why the Greek Olympics started, but they were in honor of Zeus and Hera.
